Sunset Music Fest at the Tip of Borneo

Formerly known as Tip Of Borneo Music Fest, the event will be happening from June 29 and 30, 2012 at Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, Kudat. This is a one unique outdoor musical experience in Sabah, while enjoying to a variety of musical performance, I can also enjoy the majestic sunset view at the one of the most popular tourist spot in Sabah. Tanjung Simpang Mengayau or popularly known as ‘Tip of Borneo’ is the northern most part of Borneo island, it is the point where the South China Sea merges with the Sulu Sea. I can say that this is one of the best place to get out from the hectic city life and unwind alone or with your love ones.

Normally it will take at least 3 hours drive from Kota Kinabalu, this however, depends on various conditions, such as the road and traffic (you may encounter slow moving big bus, loaded trailer truck and oil tanker). The distance is approximately 215 kilometres apart, so plan your journey well. According to Sabah Tourism website, Four-wheel drives and saloon cars with permits are stationed near the Indian Restaurant opposite the Health Clinic in Kampung Air. Four-wheel drives can take between 7-8 passengers at RM20.00 – RM25.00 per pax return, while saloon cars take up to 4 passengers and charge RM240.00 for a return trip to Simpang Mengayau. Check with the Car Rental services for their charges.

Among the artists and musicians that will be performing for the music fest are Safinaz Selamat, Jesselton Philharmonic Orchestra(JPO), Jackfruit, Rhythm of Borneo(ROB), Orkes Akiuku, Fabian William, Madnazir Madillah, Esther Applunius, and Roger Wang and Friends. I’ve attended last year’s event so I am very interested to see how its going to be presented this year, I really hope that this year brings much more inprovements than last year. Not only focusing on the musical entertainment but also accomodation, F&B service and other related stuffs. I will be going for the second day, and I may be going around interviewing some visitors, local and foreign ones, not forgetting some of the artist and musicians too.

Now getting all ready for the journey tomorrow, its gonna be a special one, I will tell you after the journey ends. Meanwhile, enjoy viewing last year’s Tip Of Borneo Music Fest photos.
