Kota Bharu Journey: AirAsia direct flight from Kota Kinabalu – Kota Bharu
Kota Bharu Journey: Prelude, Kota Kinabalu – Kota Bharu AirAsia Direct Flight
After much delay and holidays, I finally got to work on my Kelantan fam trip blog entries.
If you haven’t know it yet, AirAsia have opened a direct flight connecting Kota Kinabalu to Kota Bharu. The inaugural flight AK5354 was made on November 16, 2013. Before this, flight passengers have to transit through Kuala Lumpur before proceeding the journey to Kota Bharu. Now the journey is cut shorter and no more long waiting time.
Us, the bloggers and medias also joined the inaugural flight as we are invited for a 4 Days 3 Night fam trip to Kota Bharu Kelantan. This would be my first time visiting Kelantan and I am excited to see what this beautiful state has to offer for tourists. As you may know in Malaysia this year is also Visit Malaysia Year 2014 (VMY 2014)
So our journey begins at KK Terminal 2 Airport…
AirAsia also had the honour of Yang Mulia Dato’ Seri Tengku Dr Zainal Adlin Bin Tengku Mahamood, Chairman of Sabah Tourism Board’s presence on board the inaugural flight as well.
YB Ustaz Dato’ Haji Mohd. Amar bin Abdullah, Timbalan Menteri Besar Kelantan; YB Datuk Mejar (B) H. Anizambin Abdul Rahman, Kelantan State EXCO of Tourism, Culture and Heritage; Nor Aida bt Ismail, Senior Assistant Director of Domestic Marketing, Tourism Malaysia; and Aireen Omar, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Berhad were present to receive and welcome the guests from the inaugural flight.
AirAsia is the only airline to operate this 3 times weekly direct flight connecting East Malaysia directly to the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, and marks AirAsia’s 8th domestic route from Kota Kinabalu.

Aireen Omar commented, “We are commuted towards connecting Malaysian from the East Malaysia and Peninsular Malaysia, and we are proud to add another direct route that alleviates connectivity between Malaysians, and be the only airline to operate this route. There is a large community of East Coast dwellers in Sabah and Sarawak, therefore this new direct route will provide our guests with a majorconvenience factor, and enhance both businesses and leisure travellers’ number into each state.’
“AirAsia has the widest network coverage throughout Asean, and our guests can take advantage of that when travelling with us. Guests can now fly from Kota Kinabalu – Kota Bharu, and connect onwards to Kuala Lumpur to over 87 destinations across 22 countries,” added Aireen.
In conjunction with the celebration of this inaugural AirAsia is having a special promotion for this route with all-in-fares from as low as RM106 one way. Guests are able to book this special fare online at www.airasia.com from November 16 until November 24, 2013, and travel from December 1 until April 30, 2014. These promotional fares are also available through AirAsia’s mobile app on iPhone, Android devices and the Blackberry 10 as well as AirAsia’s mobile site, mobile.airasia.com.
Aside from domestic travellers, this new route from Kota Kinabalu into Kota Bharu also aims to connect international travellers from destinations such as Hong Kong, Shenzen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Taipei; which are served by the Kota Kinabalu hub to experience the myriad of attractions in Kota Bharu such as the idyllic Perhentian Islands, beautiful Kelantanese batik and the rich and diverse Kelantan cuisines.
After the press conference and lunch, we move over to our designated accomodation, Hotel Perdana.
